ウビー Inc., whose mission is to “guide people to appropriate medical care through technology,” will begin offering “Ubie,” a medical AI partner that provides medical support through conversations with AI, on September 16, 2025. This new medical service uses “medical-specialized AI” developed by doctors to provide personalized support, providing appropriate information and supporting medical actions.
Japan’s healthcare system is currently facing many challenges, including serious medical staff shortages and financial difficulties, as well as the start of discussions aimed at rationalizing healthcare costs, such as revising the upper limit of the high-cost medical care system and excluding OTC-like drugs from insurance coverage. In response to these challenges, our “2025 Healthcare Access Survey,” conducted in August 2025, revealed that 72% of people experience difficulties at each stage of healthcare when feeling unwell, including symptom recognition, information gathering, consultations, diagnosis, and treatment. Furthermore, even after gathering medical information online, 76.5% of people experience difficulty deciding what to do next, and 42% are “stuck,” unable to decide what to do. These findings suggest that the information overload and increasing complexity of medical information associated with the digitalization of society are creating new problems for the public’s access to healthcare.

In 2020, we launched “Ubee,” a symptom search engine that utilizes AI technology cultivated in the medical field to enable users to search for relevant disease names and medical institutions based on symptoms of concern. To date, the service has been used by 13 million people per month. However, user surveys have highlighted a new issue: even after obtaining medical information through symptom searches, users still don’t know what to do next. This is why we decided to develop a medical-specialized AI partner that goes beyond providing medical information and will be close to individuals, accompanying them through all medical procedures.
