Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) and California-based DittoLive Incorporated have entered into a strategic partnership to bring Ditto’s cutting-edge, internet-independent data synchronization technology to the Japanese market. Under the agreement, IIJ will manage domestic license sales, implementation support, and marketing, while Ditto will provide product information and technical assistance.
Ditto’s technology lets devices talk and share data in real-time. It works over local networks like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and LAN. This is great, even when there’s no internet access. The software is compatible with multiple operating systems, including iOS, Android, and Windows. Devices with Ditto create a mesh network. They find the best communication path and sync data, all without using cloud servers. When your internet connects, it syncs any data you edited offline automatically.
Ditto is now used in important applications. These include inflight tools for airline crews and point-of-sale systems in restaurants. Its use is being explored in high-demand fields like public safety, logistics, retail, and entertainment. These industries need reliable connections. They require real-time data sharing and constant communication. This is crucial, even during network outages.

IIJ aims to create a “data-driven society.” They use data to tackle complex social issues. Achieving this vision requires continuous connectivity between data-generating entities and the cloud. IIJ has long supported such connectivity through internet services delivered via optical fiber, dedicated and broadband lines, as well as mobile and wireless technologies including LoRaWAN®, private LTE, local 5G, and Wi-Fi HaLow™.
However, IIJ recognizes that in real-world scenarios, temporary internet disruptions caused by equipment failures or other factors are unavoidable. To prevent such disconnected environments from becoming data silos, IIJ is turning its attention to Ditto’s internet-independent communication and synchronization technology. This partnership will enable IIJ to explore and develop practical use cases that incorporate data from both connected and disconnected environments, advancing its goal of a truly resilient, data-driven society.
