ONSEMI has introduced the Hyperlux ID family, the industry’s first real-time indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensor capable of delivering highly accurate long-range measurements and 3D imaging of fast-moving objects. Leveraging ONSEMI’s proprietary global shutter pixel architecture and on-board storage, the Hyperlux ID family captures entire scenes while simultaneously processing depth data in real time. This new technology goes beyond normal iToF sensor limits. It allows depth sensing up to 30 meters, which is more than four times the range of standard iToF sensors. Plus, it fits into a compact design. The sensor can create monochrome images and depth data at the same time. This means there’s no need for separate visual and depth sensors. It gives a complete view of the environment.
The Hyperlux ID family makes design easier. It improves depth sensing, adapts to changing scenes, and tracks fast-moving objects accurately.
Transforming Industrial Automation and Robotics
As more factories use automation and robotics, the demand for quick and accurate depth information is rising. This is key to improving both productivity and safety. iToF sensors have faced challenges. They have a short detection range and struggle in tough lighting. Also, calculating depth for moving objects is difficult.

The Hyperlux ID family fixes these problems. It gives precise measurements and clear images of changing environments. This advancement cuts errors and downtime in manufacturing. It also improves industrial processes and lowers operational costs. The sensor is useful beyond industry. It also helps with facial recognition, gesture detection, and 3D video calls.
Versatile Applications Across Industries
The Hyperlux ID family is well-suited for various industrial and commercial applications, including:
- Automation and Robotics: Enhances factory floor safety with superior navigation and object detection for collision prevention.
- Manufacturing and Quality Control: Measures object volume and shape, detects defects, and ensures quality compliance.
- Logistics and Material Handling: Assesses the location, size, and content ratio of pallets and cargo, streamlining storage and transportation.
- Agriculture and Farming: Monitors crop growth, detects diseases, and optimizes irrigation and fertilization.
- Access Control Systems: Provides high-definition facial recognition for payment terminals and entry systems in residential and commercial environments
Advanced Sensor Technology for Superior Performance
The Hyperlux ID family integrates global shutter architecture with iToF technology, delivering precise and rapid depth sensing. iToF technology calculates depth by measuring the phase shift of reflected light emitted from Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs). The sensor’s unique pixel architecture stores captured phase signals in in-pixel memory, significantly reducing the time required to acquire four-phase information. This allows for instant scene capture and enhances depth measurement accuracy. Additionally, global shutter technology synchronizes all sensor pixels with the VCSELs, effectively minimizing ambient infrared noise from external light sources. The built-in depth processing capability provides real-time results without relying on costly external memory or high-performance processors.
Industry Endorsement
Alexander Lewinsky, Managing Director of IDS Imaging Development Systems, praised the Hyperlux ID family’s advancements:
“We were impressed that Hyperlux ID not only offers higher resolution and superior ambient light suppression compared to other iToF sensors on the market, but also features integrated processing power to calculate depth, confidence, and intensity maps at high speed. This makes it particularly effective for capturing moving objects. Our close collaboration with ON Semiconductor enabled us to rapidly develop a cost-effective Time-of-Flight camera for both indoor and outdoor applications, expanding our 3D camera portfolio for series production projects.”
Model Variants for Flexible Integration
The Hyperlux ID family includes a 1.2MP global shutter sensor with a 3.5μm BSI pixel. The AF0130 model features on-board processing for simplified integration and reduced system costs, while the AF0131 variant allows customers to implement their own depth algorithms, offering greater customization and flexibility.
By combining innovative depth-sensing technology with high-performance processing, ONSEMI’s Hyperlux ID family sets a new benchmark for industrial and commercial applications, paving the way for more efficient and intelligent automation systems.
