Lifetime Ventures has invested in Sylcast, a developer of a proprietary tree monitoring, prediction, and management platform, through the OIST-Lifetime Ventures Fund, a partnership with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University.
Sylcast is a spin-out startup founded based on research results from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST). By using non-invasive sensors and unique data analysis technology to visualize water stress, growth status, and environmental responses in real time from the “pulse” of trees, Sylcast supports the sustainable management of green assets in a variety of fields, including urban greening, agriculture, and forestry.
In the future, we will continue to develop a “performance benchmark function” that will enable the growth and stress state of individual trees to be quantified and compared, as well as a long-term prediction function based on physical models. We will also add new environmental sensing functions to the modular sensor to improve the scalability and practicality of the product.
With this funding, we will advance the following initiatives:
Development of a long-term tree health prediction model based on physiological data
Developing a scientific benchmarking tool for green assets
Improved product versatility through modular expansion of environmental sensors
