ASKA Pharmaceutical and SMFL Mirai Partners have signed an agreement to introduce a heat recovery heat pump at the clean room of the No. 1 pharmaceutical building at ASKA Pharmaceutical’s Iwaki Plant. SMFL Mirai Partners is a strategic subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing.
Under the contract, SMFL Mirai Partners applied for and secured support from the FY2024 Supplementary Budget Energy Conservation Investment Promotion and Demand Structure Transformation Support Project. The company will purchase and install the equipment at the Iwaki Plant.
ASKA Pharmaceutical will pay an energy service fee over the contract period. This fee covers maintenance, including operational monitoring, emergency response in case of malfunction, necessary repairs, insurance, and property taxes. As a result, ASKA Pharmaceutical can introduce and use the system without upfront investment or separate maintenance costs.

The heat recovery heat pump will reduce the operational load on the cleanroom steam boiler. The system will provide two benefits which include reduced energy use and decreased Scope 1 emissions. The installation will achieve energy savings which equal the annual consumption of 224 kiloliters of crude oil and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 466 tons each year.
