GMO Internet Group, whose corporate slogan is “Internet for Everyone,” launched the “GMO Humanoid Lab” on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The “GMO Humanoid Lab Shibuya Showroom,” Japan’s first and largest physical AI research and development base, opened on the 11th floor of the Cerulean Tower, the group’s headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo. Approximately half of the 382 tsubo (approximately 1,250 square meters) floor space has been opened to the public, with full opening planned for October 2026.
With the slogan “Physical AI for Everyone,” this center will serve as a strategic hub for research and development, business creation, and talent acquisition in the field of physical AI. GMO Internet Group, GMO AI & Robotics Trading Co., Ltd., and GMO Various Robotics Co., Ltd. will jointly conduct research and development here.
Equipped with world-leading robots and research and development facilities, and creating an environment where top engineers and researchers can maximize their creativity, we will accelerate the social implementation of AI and robotics technologies originating in Japan.

The evolution of AI and robotics technology is poised to fundamentally change the structure of industries. GMO Internet Group views this change as the “second half of the internet revolution.” “Physical AI,” where software-based intelligence comes to life in the real world, is attracting global attention as a major industry of the future. In particular, the humanoid field is seeing rapid development competition, mainly in the United States and China, and Japan is also required to further accelerate research and development and social implementation.
Based on this understanding of the environment, the GMO Internet Group has been investing in and strengthening its AI and robotics-related businesses. In June 2024, it established GMO AIR, and in December 2025, it welcomed GMO Various Robotics, which develops advanced robot solutions, into the group. This has allowed the group to build an integrated system from robot sales to technology development, and to advance the development of its foundation from both business and development perspectives.
Then, in 2026, the GMO Internet Group will position this as the “Year One of Humanoids” and further accelerate its investment in research and development, talent acquisition, and business creation. The symbol of this will be the “GMO Humanoid Lab.”
