PlusAI and Tokyo-based T2 have entered a strategic partnership to move Level 4 autonomous trucking closer to real deployment in Japan. The collaboration builds on two things already in motion. T2’s hands-on experience running autonomous trucking projects inside Japan, and Mitsui’s investment in PlusAI as part of a longer-term bet on next-generation mobility.
The idea is not to experiment at the edges. This is about hub-to-hub freight and making autonomous trucks work inside Japan’s real logistics constraints. Road conditions, operating models, safety expectations, and how freight actually moves across the country. T2 brings local system design and logistics operations know-how. PlusAI brings its track record of commercial autonomous truck deployments with global truck makers like TRATON GROUP, Iveco Group, and Hyundai across the U.S. and Europe.
Mitsui’s investment in PlusAI sits in the background as a signal of intent. It ties capital, technology, and infrastructure strategy together, with logistics as a priority area. This partnership also lands at a time when PlusAI is preparing to go public through a business combination with Churchill Capital Corp IX.

Japan’s driver shortage is not easing, while freight demand keeps rising. Autonomous trucking is rapidly recognized as a structural remedy rather than just a future idea. The collaboration is targeting to move Japan to an AI-based freight system which is able to widely deploy, as safety, productivity, and sustainability are its main goals.
