Phylo has teamed up with Chugai Pharmaceutical to bring in Biomni Lab, their agentic AI platform, into Chugai’s drug discovery operations. The deal is aiming at one of the most persistent snags in pharma research, where scientists end up spending a lot of time bouncing between disconnected tools, scattered datasets and analytical workflows, before finally getting to a call, or an actual decision. That slows research and leaves valuable biomedical data underused.
Biomni Lab brings AI capabilities and hundreds of biomedical resources into a single research environment. The platform connects with Chugai’s proprietary research data inside its secure infrastructure, so that AI agents can assist researchers with sharper hypotheses and more informed scientific choices. Rather than handling the data as if it were isolated information only, the platform helps researchers put it to use across the whole discovery flow, from early clues to later decisions.
Chugai plans to use Biomni Lab across several areas, including single-cell analysis, human genetics, disease biology, and target evaluation. The goal is to reduce research timelines while improving the chances of identifying successful drug candidates.

The partnership also places Chugai among Phylo’s founding customers, a group of research organizations exploring how agentic AI can reshape pharmaceutical R&D.
