Wise Payments Japan Co., Ltd., the Japanese subsidiary of Wise, a fintech company headquartered in London, UK, that provides global international money transfer and payment services, has begun supporting Apple Pay for customers holding Mastercard debit cards in Japan. Apple Pay is a payment method that makes it easy to pay in stores, apps, and online, while also ensuring privacy and thorough security.
Individual and corporate customers in Japan can add their Wise debit card to Apple Wallet to enable payments with their iPhone or Apple Watch. Fast and secure payments are possible both domestically and internationally wherever you see the Mastercard contactless payment logo—in stores, online, through apps, on public transport, and more.
This Apple Pay support addresses the growing demand for cashless payments in Japan. According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, cashless payments in Japan are projected to account for 58% of all consumer payments by 2025. Furthermore, Wise data shows that users who use cards with mobile wallets are 1.5 times more likely to make transactions than users who use physical cards.

Paying with Apple Pay is incredibly simple. Just double-click the side button, authenticate, and then hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the payment terminal. All Apple Pay payments are secure, protected by a dynamic security code unique to each transaction, in addition to authentication via Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID, or your device’s passcode. Apple Pay can be used at many contactless payment-enabled locations, including supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, cafes, and retail stores.
Furthermore, using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro eliminates the need to create accounts or repeatedly enter contact information, card details, and shipping/billing addresses, making in-app and website shopping a smooth experience.
