ACSiON Inc. has begun offering financial institutions the technology to identify counterfeit driver’s licenses and other documents, which ACSiON has previously used in identity verification operations as a fraud prevention measure.
Currently, driver’s licenses are often used for identity verification when opening bank accounts, etc., but they are identity verification documents that have differences in notation, etc. depending on the issuing prefectural public safety commission, making it difficult to quantify all of the characteristics. As a result, it is sometimes difficult to determine the authenticity of the card, and crimes such as the use of counterfeit driver’s licenses to open fraudulent accounts have become a social issue.
Accion has accumulated know-how in identifying forgeries from the characters, layout, and facial images that compose identity documents, and has been utilizing this technology as a countermeasure against fraud in identity verification operations. Now, in addition to driver’s licenses, Accion will offer the technology to identify forged identity documents such as My Number cards and residence cards as a countermeasure against fraudulent account opening.
