American Express Japan has expanded Takashi Yamamoto’s responsibilities, with Yamamoto taking on the role of Vice President, Products & Partnerships, effective October 1.
In the expanded position, Yamamoto will continue overseeing Consumer Products and Partnerships while also assuming responsibility for Commercial Products. The move brings product leadership across American Express Japan’s consumer and commercial businesses under a broader remit.
Yamamoto has been involved in American Express Japan’s consumer business and has worked on initiatives spanning card products, partnerships and customer experiences. His recent work has included the refresh of the Platinum Card in Japan, with changes covering areas such as travel, dining and entertainment benefits.
The broader product role comes as the payments industry continues to evolve around digital services, customer experience, partnerships and new technologies. American Express is also introducing technology-driven capabilities across its products. Globally, the company recently highlighted embedded AI and integrated software as part of the next evolution of its Amex Corporate offering.

For Japan’s financial services sector, the convergence of consumer and commercial product strategies reflects the increasingly connected nature of payments, loyalty, partnerships and digital experiences. Businesses are also placing greater emphasis on integrating payment products with broader financial and business-management tools.
Yamamoto’s expanded remit will therefore cover a wider range of product responsibilities within American Express Japan, spanning both individual cardmembers and commercial customers.
The leadership change comes as American Express continues to develop its products and partnerships in Japan while adapting to changing customer expectations and technology trends across the payments market.
