Oracle Japan Corporation announced that NTT DOCOMO BUILDING, INC. has adopted Oracle Autonomous AI Database , provided on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) , as the cloud migration destination for its common database platform used jointly by 12 internal systems, and that it is now in production operation.
NTT DOCOMO Business, which handles comprehensive ICT services for corporations, aims to create new value and realize a prosperous society by connecting people, communities, and various businesses, under the slogan “Connect. Surprise. Happiness,” as a “platform provider for industrial and regional DX” that supports an autonomous, decentralized, and collaborative society where companies and regions can grow sustainably. NTT DOCOMO Business plays a crucial role in supporting business operations by utilizing a common database platform across 12 internal systems that handle network management, security measures, and service operations.
Until fiscal year 2022, the common database infrastructure ran on on-premises “Oracle Exadata.” NTT DOCOMO BUILDING began considering migration options as part of a review of some of its data centers, aiming to achieve cost reductions and a lighter operational burden, such as vulnerability countermeasures, while maintaining the same processing performance and security as the existing infrastructure. NTT DOCOMO BUILDING selected “Oracle Autonomous AI Database” because it offered a flexible pricing structure that allowed for the use of necessary resources according to demand, as well as the ability to automate database management tasks such as provisioning, backup, patching, and maintenance. Preliminary testing confirmed that the processing performance was almost equivalent to the “Oracle Exadata” environment, and that the connection configuration using a closed network met security requirements, leading to the decision to migrate.

NTT DOCOMO Business migrated its database, which spanned tens of terabytes and connected approximately 400 servers, to Oracle Autonomous AI Database on OCI, resulting in a 43% reduction in database licensing costs compared to its on-premises environment. Furthermore, compared to the hybrid environment used during the migration period, which combined on-premises and OCI, the costs were reduced by up to 51%.
By utilizing a disaster recovery configuration across two domestic regions, we are enhancing business continuity and strengthening system resilience. Furthermore, by leveraging features such as automatic backup, automatic patching, and automatic maintenance, we have significantly reduced the effort required to address security vulnerabilities and enabled rapid responses to the increasing number of AI-exploiting cyberattacks and vulnerability risks. This has created an environment where operations personnel can focus on higher value-added tasks such as service improvement and data utilization.
