DiDi Mobility Japan Co., Ltd. will gradually begin offering a “tipping function” that allows customers to send tips to drivers via the DiDi passenger app after their ride, throughout the entire DiDi service area starting September 1, 2026.
In recent years, cashless payments for taxi fares have become widespread, reducing the exchange of cash when getting in and out of taxis. However, this has also reduced opportunities to give cash tips to drivers. Furthermore, with the increase in foreign tourists visiting Japan, it is expected that customers who are accustomed to tipping will have more opportunities to express their gratitude to drivers in Japan as well.

In light of these changes in the user environment, DiDi will begin offering this function to more smoothly deliver customers’ “thank yous” to drivers and to support the creation of an environment where drivers can feel appreciated and valued for their work.
