Japan’s push to spread digital transformation beyond its major cities is gaining another boost as NHN Techorus has been selected as one of three AWS Regional Revitalization Trainers under the new LEAP by AWS Japan program. The initiative, announced by Amazon Web Services Japan on August 17, is designed to strengthen the digital capabilities of regional businesses, startups and IT service providers while accelerating the adoption of cloud and artificial intelligence across Japan.
NHN Techorus, an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner, will provide training and workshops aimed at helping regional IT companies improve their ability to propose and implement cloud and AI solutions. The company plans to use its Cloud Chorus Partner Network (CCPN), which has more than 860 participating IT businesses nationwide, as a foundation for expanding the program across different regions.
Bringing Cloud and AI Expertise to Regional Japan
For years, Japan’s technology growth has been concentrated around major business centers such as Tokyo and Osaka. While large enterprises have invested heavily in cloud platforms, generative AI and data infrastructure, many regional companies have faced challenges finding skilled personnel and identifying practical applications for emerging technologies.
The LEAP by AWS Japan initiative takes aim at that gap. Rather than relying entirely on companies to develop cloud expertise internally, the program is intended to create a stronger local technology ecosystem by improving the capabilities of regional IT service providers.
NHN Techorus brings considerable experience to that effort. Its Cloud Chorus business supports companies with AWS adoption, cloud operations, security, FinOps and AI and data utilization. Through its CCPN network, the company has already built relationships with IT providers across Japan.
That existing network could make the program particularly important for smaller cities and regional economies where access to advanced technology consultants is more limited.
Why This Matters for Japan’s Technology Industry
The announcement comes at a time when Japan is trying to accelerate both digital transformation and AI adoption. AWS Japan has identified skills development and regional economic growth as important parts of its broader strategy for Japan in 2026. The company has also highlighted investments in AI, cloud infrastructure, robotics and digital talent development.
The regional training model could help address one of the biggest obstacles facing Japan’s technology sector: the shortage of people who can turn emerging technologies into practical business solutions.
For regional IT companies, better AWS and AI expertise can create new revenue opportunities. Instead of competing primarily through traditional infrastructure or software services, these businesses can expand into AI implementation, cloud migration, managed services, data analytics and cost optimization.
That shift could also benefit local customers. Small and midsize manufacturers, retailers, healthcare providers and service businesses may gain easier access to technology partners capable of explaining how cloud and AI can solve specific operational problems.
Potential Impact on Businesses
The impact is likely to extend beyond the IT services market. As regional companies become more capable of implementing cloud and AI technologies, businesses in other industries could accelerate automation and digital modernization.
For manufacturers, this could mean greater use of predictive maintenance, connected production systems and AI-powered quality control. Retailers could use cloud-based analytics to better understand customers and demand. Local service providers could automate administrative processes and deploy AI assistants without building large technology teams themselves.
There is also an economic benefit. When local businesses can get technology help from people in their area the money they spend on digital projects is more likely to stay in the local economy. This is what AWS Japan wants to achieve which is to create a system where local economies can grow on their own.
A Bigger Opportunity for Regional IT Providers
The important result of this initiative will be the new role that regional IT companies will play. These businesses will become technology partners, not just people who sell infrastructure.
Training is very important because using intelligence successfully is not just about having access to cloud services. Companies need to know about data governance, security, costs, integration and how artificial intelligence fits into their existing workflows.
NHN Techorus says it will use workshops and training at its locations over the country to make these skills stronger while also expanding its cloud and artificial intelligence support services.

The fact that NHN Techorus was chosen as an AWS Regional Revitalization Trainer shows a change in Japan’s technology landscape. The next phase of transformation will not just be about how fast companies, in Tokyo adopt artificial intelligence. It will also depend on whether smaller businesses and regional economies can be a part of this technology change. Japans digital transformation and artificial intelligence adoption will be important for regional economies and smaller businesses to grow and develop.
If programs such as LEAP by AWS Japan succeed, regional IT providers could become an important engine for cloud and AI adoption across the country. For businesses, that could mean better access to expertise, more practical AI deployments and new opportunities to compete through technology.
For Japan’s technology industry, the bigger story is therefore not simply another cloud training program. It is the attempt to build a more distributed digital economy—one in which advanced cloud and AI capabilities are available beyond the country’s traditional technology hubs.
