IBM Japan has announced that Akio Yamaguchi will become Chairman and Representative Director, effective August 1, 2026, marking a new chapter in the company’s leadership as it continues to strengthen its enterprise AI and hybrid cloud strategy.
Alongside his new responsibilities at IBM Japan, Yamaguchi has also been appointed Executive for Business Development at IBM Corporation, expanding his role beyond Japan to support the company’s global business development initiatives.
During his tenure as President of IBM Japan, Yamaguchi played a significant role in driving the company’s enterprise technology strategy, helping organizations accelerate digital transformation through AI, hybrid cloud, consulting, and automation. Under his leadership, IBM strengthened its presence across key sectors including financial services, manufacturing, healthcare, government, and telecommunications while expanding its portfolio of enterprise technology solutions.
