Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Preferred Networks (PFN) have entered some kind of business alliance, to jointly develop advanced AI technologies for mission critical sectors. Stuff like social infrastructure, and also national security.
This choice is happening because the operators of critical systems are seeing situations that get more and more complicated. They need answers fast, but also correct, which is not always easy. In those settings, keeping safety and resilience on track means the machinery has to do more than just run. It needs to judge circumstances, and then respond on its own, with a strong level of reliability, not just ‘close enough.’
MHI brings years, and decades, of experience across social infrastructure, aerospace, defense, and space. They’ve accumulated real depth in hardware design, system development, control technologies, simulation, and those large-scale engineering projects. And with its Innovative Total Optimization (ITO) strategy, MHI is leaning into creating fresh value, via technology and collaboration as well.

PFN, which was founded in 2014, has worked across the AI value chain. Their strong points include AI models, computing infrastructure, proprietary AI semiconductors, and the development of AI powered products and solutions. Some of those have already been deployed in real business environments, so it’s not only theoretical.
Under the partnership, MHI and PFN will blend their different strengths, to develop autonomous AI powered machinery and systems for use cases where reliability, and quick responsiveness, matter a lot. The alliance tech is also expected to help support intelligent operations, predictive maintenance, and quicker crisis response.
Both companies want to wrap up a capital and business alliance agreement during fiscal year 2026. The intention is to speed up long term research, development, and commercialization efforts.
