Akamai Technologies is acquiring Israeli cybersecurity company LayerX to tighten its zero-trust security strategy around enterprise AI usage. The deal focuses on a growing problem inside companies right now. Employees are using generative AI tools, SaaS AI platforms, and AI agents directly from browsers, while security teams still lack proper visibility into what data is being shared.
LayerX specializes in browser-based AI usage control and secure enterprise browser technology. Instead of forcing employees onto separate enterprise browsers, its system works on existing mainstream browsers. That means companies can monitor AI interactions, prompt inputs, file uploads, and SaaS activity without disrupting workflows or rebuilding infrastructure.
For Akamai, this is bigger than just another cybersecurity acquisition. Browser activity has become the new frontline for enterprise risk as AI adoption accelerates across workplaces. Traditional security controls were built for networks and endpoints, not employees constantly interacting with large language models through browsers.

The acquisition also strengthens Akamai’s broader zero-trust portfolio, which already includes zero-trust network access and AI application runtime protection. LayerX’s team, including co-founders Or Eshed and David Vaisbrud, will join Akamai’s security division as the company expands its cybersecurity presence in Israel.
