The STL (NSE: STLTECH), integrator leader in digital networking industry, today announced a collaboration with Facebook Connectivity to design and develop radio products 4G and 5G as part of the Evenstar program to help accelerate the commercial deployment of Open RAN and boost the preparation of 5G for operators around the world.
In recent years, STL has been developing open, disaggregated, virtualized and programmable solutions for the access side of the network. STL has recently launched a suite of open network products, which include 5G wireless products such as Garuda (indoor small cells), multiband 5G macro radios and carrier-grade Wi-Fi6 access solutions. These offerings are being tested with top telcos in the US, UK and APAC region.
The Evenstar program is a collaborative effort by Facebook Connectivity and global industry partners to accelerate the adoption of Open RAN technology. Through this collaboration, STL will develop two advanced, high-power macro radio products. The first is an O-RAN compliant radio that offers greater capacity for dense deployments. As part of this commitment, STL will also develop a dual technology radio compatible with O-RAN 4G+5G that supports the technologies individually and/or simultaneously. These O-RAN and 3GPP compliant radio products will be developed next year and will allow telecom operators around the world to scale up commercial deployments of open network infrastructure and prepare their networks for Open RAN 5G.

Speaking about this development, Jaydeep Ranade , director of wireless engineering at Facebook Connectivity, said: “The Evenstar program is part of our efforts to accelerate the availability and commercial readiness of Open RAN solutions, and we are excited to have STL. We look forward to working with STL to continue moving the industry towards open, disaggregated, and more vendor-agnostic 5G networks.”
Commenting on this collaboration, Chris Rice , CEO of STL’s Access Solutions Business, said: “We are delighted to support and contribute to the Evenstar program in developing O-RAN and 3GPP compatible radio products. collaboration, STL extends its current commitment to creating a robust, open, and disaggregated access network ecosystem. By enabling an open network infrastructure through efforts like this, we are enabling global telecommunications service providers to harness the power of 5G technology to billions of people around the world at a lower cost.”
