Sony AI and Audiokinetic Inc., known for cross-platform audio solutions, are teaming up. They’re launching a new tool: an AI-powered text-to-audio and audio-to-audio search tool. This is designed for creating professional sound effects.
The new feature, Similar Sound Search, will launch in the next beta of Wwise. Wwise is Audiokinetic’s main audio tool for cross-platform interactive and spatial audio.
The partnership brings together Sony AI’s advanced research and Audiokinetic’s top tools. This aims to help audio professionals in game development and interactive media. The search engine uses AI models. These models are trained on licensed libraries from BOOM Library and Pro Sound Effects. This means the results are ready for production.

Similar Sound Search is different from traditional keyword searches. Instead of relying on filenames or tags, it uses deep learning. This technology analyzes sonic qualities like texture, tone, and rhythm. Sound designers can search using a text description or a reference audio clip. This removes the need for manual tagging and saves time spent browsing large audio libraries. The system uncovers creative matches. For example, a sound labeled “smashing fruit” can be a close match for “footsteps in mud.””
“This partnership is a big step in how creators use sound,” said Yuki Mitsufuji, Lead Research Scientist at Sony AI and Distinguished Engineer at Sony Group Corporation. “We help audio professionals discover and craft sound more intuitively and creatively.” Finding both accurate matches and unexpected options sparks new creativity for professional sound designers.”
Martin Dufour, CTO of Audiokinetic, said, “We aim to support sound designers’ creativity.” This exciting project with Sony AI does that in new and creative ways.” With Similar Sound Search in Wwise, sound designers can find new audio assets. They can also test these assets in their projects quickly and easily.”
