HTC Corporation, a leader in smartphones and virtual reality, has made a deal with NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com). NTT Com is Japan’s top ICT solutions provider for telecom and smart venue infrastructure. The partnership aims to boost large-scale location-based entertainment (LBE) growth in Japan. This marks a new era for immersive experiences in the country.
LBE, or location-based entertainment, uses extended reality (XR) in physical spaces. This lets many users enjoy virtual environments together. These experiences span various sectors, including culture, entertainment, education, and tourism. HTC’s agile LBE deployment solutions need few physical changes. This lets venues quickly add XR experiences. It also improves planning flexibility and space use.
Japan is investing in big sports and concert venues. Operators want to make the most of these spaces during slow times. HTC and NTT Com have teamed up to meet this need. They combine HTC’s top-notch immersive technology with NTT Com’s smart venue setup and networking skills. This partnership aims to deliver affordable and powerful XR experiences.

HTC has shown how LBE can change the game with its popular international immersive exhibitions. These include Eternal Notre-Dame, which digitally reconstructs the iconic cathedral; Versailles: The Lost Garden of the Sun King, which immerses visitors in the opulence of French royal gardens; and La Magie Opéra, an XR journey into the Paris Opera. These big, multi-user experiences have received worldwide acclaim. They highlight XR’s ability to connect culture and innovation.
HTC’s LBE platform allows multiple users to enjoy synchronous experiences in spaces up to 1,000 square meters (about 33 x 30 meters). This setup provides smooth, free-roaming exploration. Its scalability and versatility suit many uses. These include cultural and performing arts, defense training, educational programs, and immersive tourism.
HTC Corporation and NTT Com plan to grow their partnership. They want to work with Japanese IP holders in anime and gaming, cultural groups, and local governments. The goal is to enrich immersive content and broaden its cultural reach.
NTT Com will also bring in its advanced technologies. This includes IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network), IoT applications, and tactile transmission systems. These will be part of the partnership. This integration will enable real-time connections across multiple locations. It will boost interactivity and create a next-generation, smart LBE ecosystem in Japan.
