ABAL Inc. has obtained a patent for its unique spatial expansion technology and has already launched Scape®. On June 1st, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Dentsu Inc.
We will develop the location-based entertainment market by utilizing Scape®, a next-generation entertainment platform that provides a highly immersive experience by overlaying real spaces such as stores and facilities with virtual spaces.
By combining Dentsu’s marketing support know-how and creativity cultivated in a variety of industries with ABAL’s technological capabilities, we will provide unique experiences through Scape® while leveraging the IP (intellectual property) and content owned by companies to support the transformation of existing facilities into theme parks and business development.

As the use of virtual spaces has spread during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the value of experiences in real spaces is being reevaluated after the pandemic subsides, there are high hopes for the creation of new experience value that combines the real and virtual worlds to an advanced level. Entertainment such as Scape®, which overlays virtual space onto real spaces such as stores and facilities, has been called “location-based entertainment” in recent years, and advances in devices and XR (extended reality) technology have made it possible to provide more advanced experiential content.
Demand for hardware and software is also on the rise, and this is a field where market growth is expected in the future. ABAL holds 18 related patents for its “spatial expansion technology,” which allows users to experience a virtual space of 20 times the size of 500m2, or 10,000m2.
Representative patents include technology that makes visitors in the real world feel as if they are moving through a vast space using elevators and moving panels in the virtual space, even though they are not actually moving. Also, there is technology that prevents visitors from colliding with each other by changing the expression of their avatars when they are in different locations in the virtual space but in the same place in the real space.
By utilizing the platform “Scape®” based on this patent, it is possible to expand limited real spaces into virtual spaces, and to build vast, intricate structures in virtual spaces, even in spaces such as conference rooms where it is physically difficult to experience them. Furthermore, “Scape®” has a mechanism that allows actions in the real world to affect the virtual space, and also has a function that allows photos taken in the virtual space to be saved on a smartphone and shared on social media, allowing users to share their experiences and impressions.
For companies, it will be possible to create theme parks using existing facilities, and to provide a variety of experiences even in limited spaces such as exhibitions. It will also be possible to introduce next-generation entertainment at low cost, and to make use of limited space to create a source of revenue, and it can be used as a new business that utilizes the IP of media and entertainment companies.
