KDDI Corporation and NEC Corporation signed a deal. They plan to work together in cybersecurity. The initiative seeks to create a complete domestic security system. It will also build Japan’s biggest cybersecurity company called “Protect .jp.”
The move responds to rising geopolitical tensions and a spike in cyberattacks on Japanese companies and government entities. Ransomware and other advanced threats have caused serious harm. This includes data breaches and disruptions to operations.
Japan’s new Economic Security Promotion Act requires critical infrastructure operators to take steps to lower cybersecurity risks. This legislation also compels private sector organizations to bolster their cybersecurity capabilities.

KDDI and NEC will work together to create solutions that boost national cybersecurity. Their collaboration will focus on two core areas:
Advancing AI-Driven, Intelligence-Based Cybersecurity
The companies will use threat intelligence to meet the cybersecurity needs of public institutions and private businesses. They will gather this information from their services and their subsidiaries. We will analyze this data with our special AI tools. This will help us provide strong, smart cybersecurity services. These services are made to find and react to new threats.
Enhancing Operational Capabilities Through Global Expertise
KDDI subsidiary LAC and NEC will combine their experience from joint operations in Singapore, along with KDDI’s extensive “Telehouse” data center network—spanning over 45 locations across more than 10 countries—and NEC’s expertise in managing government systems. Together, they aim to create a comprehensive security monitoring and operations framework to safeguard Japanese enterprises both domestically and internationally.
The newly developed security infrastructure will be offered to government agencies and corporate clients through KDDI’s “WAKONX” digital transformation service and NEC’s “BluStellar” platform.
