Equinix has announced partnerships with alternative energy suppliers to support the expansion of its AI-driven data centers. The announcement, made in Japan on August 18 by Equinix Japan, highlights collaborations with next-generation nuclear power companies Oklo, Radiant, ULC-Energy, and Stellaria, as well as fuel cell supplier Bloom Energy.
This initiative is part of Equinix’s Diversified Power Portfolio Strategy. It aims to tackle future power supply issues. The company will expand its portfolio. It will add on-site generation technologies and advanced nuclear energy solutions. This will be alongside existing contracts with traditional power providers.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) says global electricity demand will grow by 4% each year until 2027. This is the fastest growth rate we’ve seen in recent history. This surge comes from rapid electrification, the fast growth of AI-driven data centers, and a rebound in manufacturing. To sustain this momentum, the urgent development of new energy sources is essential.
