Rakuten Group and Rakuten Mobile announced the full-scale launch of their agent-based AI tool, “Rakuten AI.” It will initially be integrated into Rakuten Mobile’s dedicated communication app, ” Rakuten Link .” This fall, Rakuten plans to integrate it into its e- commerce website, ” Rakuten Ichiba.” According to the company, Rakuten AI will seamlessly integrate with a wide range of services within its ecosystem, including shopping, finance (fintech), travel, and entertainment, to provide a more personalized customer experience.
In addition to research and agent functions, the tool boasts excellent contextual processing capabilities in Japanese. A chat-style AI service will be available on Rakuten Link from October 2024. Starting July 30, the AI chat function and auto-suggested prompts will facilitate cross-sectional searches within the company’s ecosystem. Specifically, users can make inquiries via text input, speech-to-text, or image search. By selecting answers from multiple prompts in response to follow-up questions generated by the AI, users can more smoothly access the information they are looking for. Additionally, Rakuten AI’s dedicated web app, currently available in beta, is designed to accommodate a wide range of users in digital communications. The company plans to offer a wide range of specialized AI functions , including AI chat, AI search using more advanced thinking, voice dialogue, translation, text reading support, programming support, and image generation.

It is scheduled to be introduced to Rakuten Ichiba in the fall of 2025, and by utilizing an integrated, specialized AI agent, the company envisions analyzing a variety of data accumulated through its e-commerce services, such as user attributes, preferences, and purchasing trends, to propose products optimized for each individual user. Going forward, the company plans to gradually introduce this to various services within its ecosystem, developing an “agent-type ecosystem” with the AI agent as the user interface.
