Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. and IBM Japan, Ltd. announced that they have entered into an AI partnership with the aim of creating new value in the Tohoku and Niigata regions by utilizing advanced technologies, including agent-based AI.
Agent-type AI is an artificial intelligence system based on generative AI technology that can achieve specific goals under limited supervision.
In its fiscal 2025 management plan, the Tohoku Electric Power Group has set the goal of “viewing DX as an opportunity for growth and challenging the entire group to achieve growth by strengthening and expanding existing businesses through innovation and other means, as well as expanding new businesses.” To this end, the group is focusing on DX, including the use of AI, and promoting value co-creation with the local community as a way to strengthen its sustainable management foundation.

IBM Japan‘s mission is to be a catalyst that changes the world for the better, and we aim to contribute to local communities through responsible technology.
Based on this partnership, we will promote efforts to implement IBM Japan’s advanced technologies, such as agent-based AI, and accelerate digital transformation in each business area of the Tohoku Electric Power Group. We will also work on strategy formulation, infrastructure development, and human resource development required for AI implementation and operation. Through these efforts, we will create new value in the Tohoku and Niigata regions and contribute to their sustainable development.
