An AI agent is an AI that can autonomously design and execute tasks under instructions from humans. 2025 is said to be the “first year of AI agents,” and it is expected that the use of AI agents will progress rapidly. Furthermore, light-weight yet high-performance generative AI has been announced in the United States, China, and other countries. Such lightweight natural language models are called SLMs (Small Language Models) and are attracting attention. Considering the technological trends of AI agents and SLMs, we believe that the world in which only companies with huge computing resources were able to develop generative AI base models will move away from the past and into a world in which ordinary companies will be able to develop their own in-house generative AI, as “the performance per parameter of generative AI is rapidly improving” and “the capabilities of computing machines continue to improve.”
In light of this trend, KPMG Japan believes that the “main goal of AI utilization” is to develop an in-house dedicated AI agent system that utilizes SLM that has learned information about individual companies and to apply it in practice.To that end, we have prepared computational resources for the development of task-specific SLM within KPMG Japan and have built a support system for the development of generative AI and AI agents that are optimal for each company.
