TIS、明電舎のオラクルDRサイトのクラウド移行を支援

TIS Inc., a member of the TIS INTEC Group, announces that it has migrated the Oracle Exadata Database Machine used at Meidensha Corporation’s DR site to a cloud service using TIS’s “Oracle Exadata Cloud Migration Service.” This has reduced the high costs of maintaining two on-premise environments by approximately 50%.

日本オラクルが提供する「Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure」は、Oracle Databaseの処理に最適なプラットフォームであるExadataをパブリッククラウド上の専用環境として提供し、エンタープライズ領域に最適なデータベース基盤環境への移行を可能にするサービス。また、他のクラウド環境とのマルチクラウド連携にも対応。データベースをクラウド上で統合管理し、システム運用の負荷を軽減。ハイブリッドクラウドにも対応し、現在オンプレミスで運用しているExadataのBCP（事業継続計画）／DR（災害復旧）対策としても利用可能。

TIS’s “Oracle Exadata Cloud Migration Service” is a service for migrating enterprise database systems running on-premise to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s (OCI) Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure. This service provides a one-stop service for migrating systems including Oracle Database to OCI and Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, from consulting to migration and operation and maintenance.

Meidensha is a major manufacturer of heavy electrical equipment that supports society’s lifelines, such as electricity and railway power infrastructure, water filtration and treatment systems, etc. The company also operates a wide range of electricity-related businesses, including automobile testing equipment (dynamometer systems) for which it has the top market share in Japan, and electric vehicle motors.

明電舎が西日本のデータセンターにExadataを初導入したのは、販売実績や配送実績データを蓄積・管理するデータウェアハウス（DWH）を強化するためで、2017年のこと。ExadataをDWHとして運用するため、10以上の業務システムをこのExadataに移行し、まずは基幹業務を支える統合データベース環境を構築。その後、東日本のデータセンターに2台目のExadataを導入し、災害や障害に備えたDRサイトを構築してBCP対策を強化。

しかし、これら2台のExadataサーバーの運用には、5年ごとの更新費用や毎月のデータセンター保守費用など、コスト面での課題がありました。そのため、次の保守期限までに改善策を講じることを検討していました。そこで明電舎では、クラウドとの組み合わせも視野に入れた次世代ネットワーク構成の検討を2021年末から開始。

Reasons for choosing TIS and “Oracle Exadata Cloud Migration Service”

Considering the risk of impacting their mission-critical business, TIS and Meidensha decided to continue the production environment in the West Japan Data Center as is, and to review only the DR site in the East Japan Data Center. They then compared several options for switching from Exadata to a cloud service, while leaving the option of continuing with the existing Exadata open. TIS and the “Oracle Exadata Cloud Migration Service” were selected for the following reasons:
