REQ Technology Consulting has supported the cloud migration of a core business system for a major Japanese company, with the system beginning production operations in mid-September 2026. The migration uses Oracle AI Database@AWS, which REQ Technology Consulting says is the first deployment and production operation of the service by a Japanese company, based on its research.
REQ Technology Consulting supported the project from selecting and proposing the migration environment through contract procedures and technical implementation. The company had previously been involved in building and maintaining the customer’s system, giving it knowledge of the existing infrastructure and its technical requirements.
The migration addresses a challenge faced by companies running Oracle Database on-premises. As hardware maintenance periods and server operating-system support deadlines approach, organizations are being required to reconsider their infrastructure. However, moving Oracle Database to the cloud can increase costs depending on licensing and system configurations, making migration more difficult for some companies.
REQ Technology Consulting identified Oracle AI Database@AWS as a potential fit for the customer’s environment before the service was available in Japan. The company also helped coordinate information from Oracle and AWS because the service spans both vendors and requires organizations to understand separate contractual and technical requirements.
Oracle AI Database@AWS combines Oracle’s database technology with AWS infrastructure. The service places OCI infrastructure within AWS data centers, allowing Oracle Database environments to operate on AWS while retaining Oracle capabilities. The companies announced the service’s availability in Japan on February 5, 2026, and the customer’s system entered production approximately seven months later.
The implementation also required expertise across Oracle Database, Oracle Exadata, AWS, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). REQ Technology Consulting brought engineers with experience in these areas together to support the migration and deployment.

The production deployment is notable because companies generally introduce new infrastructure services gradually, beginning with systems where the impact of potential issues is limited. In this case, Oracle AI Database@AWS was adopted for a core system that plays a central role in the customer’s operations at an early stage of the service’s availability in Japan.
The release also shows the choices, about technology that companies have now when they use Oracle Database in their own buildings. Businesses need to think about if they want to keep their buildings or go to a cloud service if they want to keep using Oracle Database or use something similar and if Oracle AI Database@AWS or another cloud database is the best choice.
REQ Technology Consulting said it will continue supporting companies evaluating these infrastructure options, drawing on the technical knowledge gained through the deployment.
