TISI Corporation, a member of the TIS Intec Group, announced that it has supported West Japan Railway Company in enhancing its API development process by utilizing generation AI on its “High-Security API Platform Service,” which provides total support from the design to the development and operation of a secure API platform. This has resulted in both increased efficiency and improved quality in API development.
JR West was seeking to shorten the development and release time for APIs and improve the quality of API definition files in order to respond to requests for data such as railway operation information and delay information from operators providing transportation-related apps and to expand the use of data both internally and externally. In this proof-of-concept (PoC) using generation AI in the “High-Security API Platform Service,” TISI’s independently developed API definition creation support tool was used to verify the automation of the API definition file creation, review, and modification processes. In the PoC, the code error detection rate was 87.5%, and the automated code correction addressed all 9 correction issues, confirming the expected correction results in all cases.
These results demonstrate that it is possible to achieve both efficiency and quality improvement in the process from API definition creation to review and revision, and the system is currently in production operation. This case study is not limited to the railway industry, but is expected to be used in a wide range of fields, including the financial sector, where advanced system integration through API utilization is required.
In recent years, companies and public infrastructure operators have increasingly expected the creation of new services and the advancement of operations through data integration, and the importance of system integration platforms utilizing APIs is growing. In particular, in data utilization areas such as MaaS, there is a need for a system that can quickly and securely publish APIs.

Amidst these circumstances, JR West is promoting the creation of new businesses while developing and operating a variety of business systems, including user-facing systems such as ICOCA, operational systems that support railway equipment inspections, and back-office systems such as human resources and finance. In response to the increasing demand from transportation operators and service providers for data such as operational information and delay information, JR West built a common API platform in 2020 and has been promoting the provision of data to external parties and the utilization of data within the company.
On the other hand, creating and reviewing API definition files, which are necessary for publishing APIs, requires specialized knowledge of specifications and description formats. As a result, the work tends to concentrate on personnel who are proficient in API definitions, leading to increased development man-hours and a heavy review burden. In development systems involving multiple vendors, repeated confirmations and revisions between those responsible for creating API definition files and those responsible for infrastructure operations sometimes resulted in a delay of about a month before the API could be published.
Therefore, JR West conducted a proof-of-concept (PoC) using generation AI with TISI’s “High-Security API Platform Service” to streamline the creation and review process while maintaining the quality of API definitions and shorten the time until API publication.
