Rakuten and HP Japan have decided to work together to bring the desktop version of ‘Rakuten AI’ to HP computers sold all over Japan. This new setup will start rolling out between spring and summer 2026. The concept is very easy to grasp. Provide AI support that is ready for use immediately so that users can be more productive and efficient thinkers as well as workers without switching tools.
This is a first for Rakuten. It’s the first time Rakuten AI will appear on another company’s device. It’s also the first time their AI will work both online and offline directly on the device. The system is based on local AI models that are executed on HP computers. It enables Users to execute hard jobs without the need to send private information to the cloud. The AI makes the decision itself regarding the location of data processing, whether on-device, at the edge, or in the cloud. That keeps things fast, private, and less expensive to run.
Once this goes live, HP users in Japan will get a bunch of AI tools built in. Things like summarizing text, writing, and translation are all included. It will also handle more specific stuff like helping people complete transactions, make decisions, shop online, plan travel, or manage money. Everything is built with Japanese users in mind. The system is tuned for Japanese language, culture, and local data rules. So it fits better into everyday use while still staying safe with privacy and security laws.

The connection of Rakuten AI to over 70 additional Rakuten services will be another benefit. Users who are already using Rakuten for shopping, travel or payments will find it easier to switch among them. It’s designed to make work smoother, protect sensitive data, and help people stay creative even when they are offline.
Ting Tsai, Rakuten’s Group Chief AI & Data Officer, said the company is proud to work with HP, which is one of the biggest names in tech. He said this step will make agent-based AI easier to access and more useful for people. His point was clear. When humans and AI work together, new ways of creating and connecting start to open up.
Nobuki Okado, the President and CEO of HP Japan, said this partnership shows how both companies see the future of AI. They believe the best setup mixes AI that runs locally on the device with AI that lives in the cloud. That combination gives users a secure, cost-friendly, and powerful experience. He said HP is excited to bring out PCs that come with Rakuten AI because they’ll give people a more personal and natural way to use technology.
Both 楽天グループ そして 日本HP want to use what they’re good at to create new value through AI devices and solutions. The bigger goal here is not just about one product. It’s about shaping how people in Japan work, live, and interact with technology. They believe these AI-enabled devices can change the way work happens and how creativity flows, while also helping Japan’s PC market move forward.
