OpenHome has partnered with ElevenLabs Japan to launch a developer program aimed at expanding voice AI development across Japan. The initiative will back people building AI agents, and also voice enabled apps, using OpenHome’s AI hardware operating system, plus ElevenLabs’ speech technologies.
This partnership brings ElevenLabs’ text to speech, and speech to text models, into OpenHome’s developer platform. so developers can tap into tools that are meant to deal with the little nuances of spoken Japanese, such as pitch, context, and the sort of natural phrasing that sounds smooth. OpenHome said this is its first voice technology partnership in Japan.

The program is open to developers in Japan through an application process. Selected participants will be given イレブンラボ credits to build projects on the OpenHome platform, plus some developer resources that are available in both Japanese and English. This move sort of reflects the rising interest in edge AI, where voice assistants can run straight on local hardware, which helps with faster responses without needing to lean so much on cloud based processing.
