NECプラットフォーム announced the release of a development kit for the “Compact Box Controller AMD Embedded+ Model,” which will support engineers developing AI accelerator devices using FPGAs with excellent real-time performance, in a short period of time and at low cost.
This product will be added to the lineup of compact box-type controllers as an edge platform suitable for low power consumption, a small form factor, and a long lifecycle.
This development kit is equipped with a motherboard that uses the AMD Embedded+ architecture, which was certified by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. as the first in Japan. The AMD Embedded+ architecture features an AMD Ryzen™ embedded processor and an AMD Versal™ AI Edge series adaptable SoC on a single board, shortening the development time for AI accelerator devices and enabling faster time to market. The kit also features an expansion board connector, allowing for the addition of specific interfaces at low cost.

In addition to the development kit, we will also begin offering our own support package to assist in the development of FPGAs required for AI accelerator devices, lowering the barriers to using FPGAs and contributing to shortening development times.
In recent years, the movement toward automation and labor-saving using AI has been accelerating against the backdrop of societal challenges. In particular, in mission-critical fields such as medical care, industry, and mobility, edge devices are essential for minimizing delays in sensor and AI computing processing and response. Among edge devices, there is also a growing need for AI accelerator devices that use FPGAs, which excel in real-time performance. However, developing high-performance AI accelerator devices optimized for specific applications requires advanced FPGA design skills, as well as processes such as prototyping and verification, resulting in high initial development costs and lead times until practical application.
