Laboro.AI Inc., which develops custom-made AI and artificial intelligence solutions and provides AI implementation consulting services called “Custom AI,” has supported the development of “AI for design code generation for PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)” by OMRON Corporation This project aims to solve the urgent issue of a shortage of skilled engineers at manufacturing sites, which many manufacturing companies face, by combining our strength in advanced AI development technology with OMRON’s abundant data assets related to control technology.
According to the “2025 Edition of the Manufacturing White Paper” published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and others, DX is positioned as one of the initiatives aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the entire manufacturing industry. However, while there have been some successes in digitalization and efficiency improvements at the individual company level, it has been shown that there has been limited success in creating results in advanced and broad areas, such as transforming business models. In Europe in particular, since the proposal of “Industry 5.0,” there has been an increase in efforts to establish infrastructure for collaboration between industries and companies, such as “Manufacturing-X.” In Japan, in addition to such cross-industry collaboration, there is also a demand for improving business efficiency through the use of cutting-edge technologies such as AI.
OMRON has set out a long-term vision called “Shaping the Future 2030” to create value through automation, which is the company’s strength. In its control equipment business, the company is working to realize sustainable automation and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society by creating new forms of automation to shape the future of people, industry, and the environment.

The project we recently supported aimed to use generative AI to enhance and automate the coding work of control designers, who play a vital role in factory and equipment control systems. PLC development requires personnel who can build systems by referencing and taking into account a variety of information, such as the user company’s unique environment and hardware configuration and specifications, at every stage from design to implementation. However, due to factors such as the aging of engineers and a declining population, securing such personnel has become a social issue in the manufacturing industry.
By utilizing generative AI, a technology that has seen remarkable technological advances in recent years, this initiative aims not only to resolve the labor shortage situation but also to contribute to accelerating automation across domestic industries.
