Cloud Anywhere Strategy, On-Premise Investment Continues Next on stage, CRO O’Dowd explained Sansbury’s vision in more detail. He summarized Cloudera’s value proposition into three elements: AI, Cloud Anywhere, and the right platform for each workload. O’Dowd cited the challenge of many companies seeking a balance between on-premise and cloud computing, highlighting the need for a distributed cloud strategy. He also noted a trend back to private cloud, citing a Barclays survey result that found 83% of companies plan to migrate workloads to private clouds. CEO Sansbury also recognizes the shift in the market. “A year or two ago, the focus was on how quickly we could move all workloads to the cloud. Now, the focus is on how much to keep on-premise and how much to move to the cloud,” he said. He continued, “It’s estimated that about 40% of workloads will remain behind the firewall, but we expect that percentage to grow even further.”
Cloudera offers the functionality necessary for AI workflows, such as data preparation, model training, and inference, both on-premise and in the cloud. Additionally, through collaboration with Dell Technologies and NVIDIA , the company is also developing a new “AI in a Box” solution that combines Dell hardware, NVIDIA software technologies such as RAPIDS and NIM, and Cloudera AI. This allows various models and agents to be immediately operational. Both speakers particularly emphasized the acquisition of Taikun, announced on the 5th. Taikun provides a Kubernetes platform and orchestration technology for hybrid/multi-cloud environments. O’Dowd explained that it will “completely improve operations related to working with CDPs and various platforms, integration, and data services.” This will enable companies to realize a “cloud anywhere” experience, enabling them to enjoy a cloud experience no matter where their data resides.
During the due diligence period prior to the acquisition, O’Dowd confirmed that Cloudera’s platform worked properly on Taikun, and stated that it will immediately provide benefits to customers. Regarding platform functions, initiatives such as federated queries using the query engine Trino and REST catalogs were introduced. Of particular note is the change in the company’s relationship with competitors. O’Dowd stated, “A few years ago, we competed with Snowflake, Databricks, and even Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. Now, we partner with these vendors’ technologies to reduce costs for our customers.” He also mentioned edge computing as an “often-overlooked growth area.” Demand for edge computing is on the rise, and Cloudera’s platform includes Cloudera Edge Manager, based on Apache MiNiFi, allowing customers to utilize the platform on edge devices. Combined with Apache Kafka and Apache NiFi, Cloudera Edge Manager is a key component of Cloudera’s strategy to “move data anywhere.”

In fact, oil giant ExxonMobil has adopted Cloudera as its standard technology for data migration, and it is reportedly used on the mobile devices of oilfield workers and sales representatives. Going forward, the company plans to improve usability through a “universal UI,” which uses a common user interface (UI) across all products. According to Sansbury, more than 250 organizations worldwide are currently using the Cloudera platform for AI, including financial institutions such as Singapore’s OCBC (Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation). “This number will double in the next 12 months,” he said. Finally, he concluded, “クラウデラ offers cloud-like ease of use with the benefits of AI. You can take advantage of generative AI, agent-based AI, and the next trends in your data center and cloud environments without sacrificing security, scalability, or control.”
