Kontrapunkt has launched its first retail type foundry. It is called Kontrapunkt Type. For the studio, this is a real change in direction. For close to forty years, its typography work mostly happened behind the scenes. Client projects. Brand systems. Custom typefaces made for very specific briefs. Those fonts usually stayed with the client. They were not meant for general use.
With Kontrapunkt Type, that changes. The studio is now offering its typefaces directly to designers, studios, and businesses. Fonts meant for everyday use. Not tied to a single brand. Not locked inside one project.
Over the years, Kontrapunkt has designed custom typefaces and wordmarks for brands like LEGO, Noma, Carlsberg, Shiseido, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and ASICS Tiger. That kind of work shapes how you think about typography. Type that has to work across cultures. Across industries. Across print, digital, packaging, and signage. Kontrapunkt Type grows out of that background. It is not about loud or trendy fonts. It is about type that holds up. Type you can build on.

The foundry launches with three type families. KP Duo Sans and KP Duo Serif are designed as a pair. Same proportions. Same metrics. Different expression. This makes it easier to move between serif and sans in real layouts without things breaking. KP Spatial is a different kind of tool. More geometric, but still human. Designed to stay readable and usable at many sizes.
All fonts are available in woff2, otf, and ttf formats. Licensing is simple. It is based on company size, not complicated usage rules. Kontrapunkt Type becomes available from February 4, 2024. Trial fonts are available too, so designers can test things properly during early concepts and exploration.
