SORACOM Inc. is pleased to announce that it has begun offering a Downlink API on its IoT platform “SORACOM” that can send commands and requests to devices that use the SORACOM IoT SIM.
IoTアプリケーションでは、遠隔地に設置されたデバイスの監視・制御・保守、センサーデータの収集間隔や閾値設定の変更、デバイス上で動作するアプリケーションの操作など、サーバーからデバイスに指示を送り、デバイスの動作を制御する必要があります。
その一つが、デバイス側でコマンドを待ち、クラウドアプリケーションから指示を受ける方式で、特にIoTゲートウェイなどのデバイスで採用されてきました。近年ではLPWAの普及に伴い、スマートメーターのような電力制約のある機器でもこの方式が採用されています。

The IoT platform SORACOM provides services such as “SORACOM Gate” and “SORACOM Napter” that establish secure communication paths between devices and servers, and supports procedures such as initial device setup and unplanned maintenance through interactive remote access.
The newly launched “Downlink API” is a function that allows you to send commands and requests to the unique “SIM ID” assigned to the SORACOM IoT SIM. This allows you to send control instructions from a server or application to a device equipped with a SORACOM IoT SIM via the SORACOM platform. This is suitable for routine operations such as changing settings after the start of operation, and by repeatedly calling this function, it is also possible to send instructions to multiple devices at once.
例えば、大規模な商用IoTシステムでは、同じコマンドが数万台のデバイスで同時に実行されるケースがあります。また、システムイベントをトリガーとして、サーバーからデバイスにコマンドを送信し、遠隔操作を行うシナリオもあります。このような場合、Downlink APIを使用することで、通信や処理の負荷を軽減することができます。また、開発が簡素化されるため、開発期間の短縮やスムーズな運用が可能になります。
ダウンリンクAPIはHTTP、HTTPS、SSHをサポートしており、これらのプロトコルをリッスンするソフトウェアをデバイス上で実行することで、リモートコントロールを実現できます。
