GlobalLogic Inc., part of the Hitachi Group and a leader in digital engineering, built a cutting-edge private 5G network. This network is now live at Hitachi Rail’s most advanced manufacturing site in Hagerstown, Maryland. This network, created with Ericsson, acts as the digital backbone of the 307,000-square-foot plant. It powers automation, keeps workers safe, and sparks scalable industrial innovation.
The private 5G network opens up new industrial possibilities. It is changing rail manufacturing for the better. Real-time data capture and analysis enable physical AI applications. This helps systems like inspection robots and robot dogs spot defects. They can also support on-site additive manufacturing for spare parts and tools. Digital twin technology uses fast, reliable connectivity. It lets engineers simulate and improve railcars before they are built. This reduces errors and speeds up production. Predictive maintenance needs secure, real-time data from private wireless networks. It spots equipment failures early. This reduces downtime and boosts performance. Automated quality inspections use advanced image analysis. This speeds up and improves defect detection. Meanwhile, IoT-driven material transport connects devices. Autonomous vehicles can safely and efficiently move materials on the factory floor.
The network has ultra-low latency and high bandwidth. This allows real-time execution of critical processes. This facility improves precision, productivity, and worker safety. The Hagerstown facility makes up to 20 railcars each month. We meet the rising demand for advanced rail manufacturing in North America. This facility also sets a new standard for smart, digital-first production.
