Toshiba Tec Corporation and Kaga Electronics Co., Ltd. have come together and signed an MoU to share their resources for developing and manufacturing products for the retail industry. The companies’ collaboration, as defined in the Memorandum of Understanding, includes product planning, manufacturing, parts procurement and set up, with the aim of providing retail products of high quality in a stable and reliable manner.
The backdrop is a retail environment that is changing fast. Toshiba Tec has been leading the initiative to boost quality benchmarks and to make supply stability stronger throughout the whole chain, from R&D to production. On the other hand, the retailers are being forced to switch to the smarter stores that are more the customer-friendly and more efficient in operations. Therefore, the competition among them is not a matter of choice anymore. It is the core challenge.
This collaboration brings together two different strengths. Toshiba Tec contributes its capabilities in product planning, development, and maintenance. Kaga Electronics adds its manufacturing expertise and global parts procurement network. Together, the aim is to build a system that can consistently supply highly reliable hardware tailored to the needs of the retail industry.

Beyond immediate product improvements, the partnership is also positioned as a way to expand product lineups and respond more precisely to what retailers actually need. There is also a longer-term view here. Both companies see this effort as a step toward creating a more sustainable product lifecycle for retail hardware and generating value across the broader industry.
Under the agreement, joint studies and coordination will take place across several areas. Kaga Electronics will support prototyping and mass production for products planned and developed by 東芝テック. Parts procurement strategies will be reviewed jointly to reduce costs while maintaining supply stability. Manufacturing processes will be handled by Kaga Electronics, including quality control and proposals for production improvements. Final assembly and shipping systems will also be examined by both sides.
The collaboration also includes a shared policy around hardware manufacturing for smart store applications. Initially, the focus will be on products for the domestic market. Over the medium to long term, the scope is expected to expand to overseas markets as well.
This fundamental pact has been established, and Toshiba Tec along with Kaga Electronics intend to proceed with separate agreements to elaborate on particular actions. The target is to create a more valuable added process covering the entire area from product development to manufacturing, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and enhancing the competitiveness of the retail industry.
