SBI Holdings そして Startale Group have joined Open Standard, an initiative developing the US dollar-denominated stablecoin Open USD (OUSD), alongside more than 140 companies, including Visa, Stripe, Mastercard, BlackRock and Coinbase.
The two companies are also considering a proof-of-concept experiment to connect OUSD with JPYSC, a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. The aim is to make settlements between yen and US dollars faster and more efficient once OUSD is deployed on-chain.
Announced in June 2026, Open Standard aims to build a shared platform for digital payments by bringing together payments, financial services, and technology players. Open Standard’s goal is to reduce the costs and speed of cross-border transfers as financial services shift on-chain.
SBI Group and Startale have also been working on the practical use of blockchain-based financial infrastructure. In July 2026, SBI Global Asset Management, DigiFT Tech and Startale announced a testnet proof of concept for settling and distributing tokenized securities, with potential future use of JPYSC. Startale is also developing a trading platform for institutional investors, extending its work beyond payment and settlement services.

The Open Standard initiative was launched in 2026 by Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa. Features of its approach include low transaction fees, revenues to be shared with the participating businesses and processes to incorporate feedback from partner companies. More than 200 financial firms, fintechs and multinational corporations are collaborating in the process of integrating OUSD on their platforms.
JPYSC is designed in line with Japan’s Payment Services Act and trust laws. It is intended to support yen-denominated settlements, transfers and distributions on-chain, including potential applications in tokenized asset trading and cross-border payments.
Through their participation in Open Standard, SBI Holdings and Startale will explore ways to connect JPYSC with global stablecoin infrastructure. Both companies aim to improve international liquidity for yen-denominated assets while working with Open Standard partners to develop a secure, interoperable stablecoin ecosystem in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
