Smartscape has partnered with Dentsu Research Institute Thailand to introduce its 3D similar shape search system, SS4M, to the Thai market, marking the company’s first step towards overseas expansion.
The system, developed in Japan, will be sold and supported locally by DENTSU SOKEN (THAILAND) LIMITED, the Thai subsidiary of Dentsu Research Institute. The partnership will combine Smartscape’s expertise in design data management with Dentsu Research Institute Thailand’s manufacturing industry experience, customer network and understanding of local business practices.
Smartscape developed SS4M to help manufacturers organize and reuse design knowledge across departments and locations. The tool makes the technical expertise of engineers more accessible and aids in the standardization and reuse of existing designs. The usage of this tool has enabled Japanese companies to increase the quality of their products, decrease development time and reduce costs. Also, this tool eliminates the possibility of loss of expertise as a result of employee turnover.

Thailand presents an important opportunity for this expansion. More than 6,000 Japanese companies, from manufacturers to others, are present in this country as the home base of supply chain networks reaching the entire world, especially in the automotive industry. Labour mobility and increasing design and development costs are the concerns of this market’s manufacturers.
The companies will jointly help Japanese and local companies maintain their technical expertise by enhancing the utilization of design assets and to develop the design and development competence. Dentsu Research Institute Thailand will coordinate local sales and offer technical support to facilitate more effective implementation.
In the future, the two companies will extend their partnership into the manufacturing segment and assist the industrial development of Thailand. Smartscape has set a target of achieving annual sales of ¥100 million from SS4M’s Thai market operations within five years.
