Hiroshima-based startup Scale Technology has snagged its first seed funding round, supported by five companies and the Japan Finance Corporation. The money is planned to go toward beefing up development of its AI-driven HR platform, PitA, and also to broaden its offerings for small to medium sized businesses.

With PitA, employers can look at the Big Five personality framework, not only for natural personality traits but also for workplace behaviors, so teams can spot hiring mismatches and employee development gaps early, before they turn into expensive headaches. The company also plans to launch an AI chatbot, PitA CHAT, later this year, followed by an AI agent for HR system design. As labor shortages continue to push Japanese businesses toward smarter hiring, startups are increasingly building AI tools that make recruitment and talent management more practical for smaller companies.
