Hitachi, Ltd. will open the “Physical AI Experience Studio” on April 1, 2026, within its collaborative facility “Lumada Innovation Hub Tokyo,” to accelerate the resolution of on-site challenges using physical AI. This studio is a strategic base for accelerating the social implementation of physical AI through co-creation with customers and partners. Centered around “HMAX by Hitachi”, a group of next-generation solutions that innovate social infrastructure with AI, it will quickly solve issues such as productivity, quality, and safety, and create new value.
Physical AI, which is currently attracting increasing attention, is a technology that connects AI analysis and judgment obtained from on-site data, as shown in the diagram above, to concrete actions such as robot control and automated operation of equipment. By repeating this cycle, the AI continuously learns, enabling it to make optimal decisions and take action according to the situation. Hitachi is working on the transformation of social infrastructure with Lumada 3.0, utilizing the digital capabilities and domain knowledge it has accumulated to date. Physical AI is a technology that plays an extremely important role in HMAX, which accelerates this transformation with AI, by connecting IT and OT and aligning advanced analysis and judgment with accurate actions on-site.
This studio is a co-creation space that connects the value creation cycle of IT and OT brought about by physical AI to solving our customers’ challenges. Here, you can experience cutting-edge technologies such as robotics AI*1 developed by Hitachi’s R&D group to support field workers, and wearable sensors that combine Hitachi’s human measurement sensor technology with GlobalLogic’s software development capabilities. Furthermore, professional personnel such as Hitachi’s AI Ambassadors will provide consistent support, from deeply exploring our customers’ visions and challenges to formulating concrete solution approaches utilizing HMAX and other tools.

Furthermore, this studio will serve as a hub for an open co-creation ecosystem, collaborating with alliance partners such as Google Cloud and Microsoft. By combining the cutting-edge technologies of our partners with Hitachi’s deep domain knowledge, we will provide optimal solutions to our customers’ complex challenges more quickly.
In recent years, the social infrastructure sector, manufacturing, and logistics have faced increasingly serious challenges such as a declining workforce, a shortage of skilled technicians, and aging infrastructure. As a solution, expectations are rising for robotics and physical AI that can make autonomous decisions and take action on-site. However, many companies are facing the challenge of “not knowing where to start.” To overcome this situation, Hitachi will open the “Physical AI Experience Studio” as a place to connect the potential of physical AI with customers’ visions and challenges, and to co-create concrete business transformations.
Hitachi’s strength lies not only in its AI technology itself, but also in its own “on-site” operations in diverse businesses such as railways, energy, and manufacturing. We position our own sites as our first customers, or “customer zero,” and have practiced, verified, and refined the use of AI there. This studio is not merely a technology exhibition facility, but a place of co-creation where we present demonstrations that combine the real-world knowledge that 日立 has cultivated through its customer zero approach, thereby concretizing our customers’ challenges and leading them to the optimal solution approach using HMAX and other technologies.
