Universal Robots announced that Toyota Industries Corporation’s Higashichita Plant has introduced UR’s collaborative robot, the UR10e.
At the factory, by combining the UR10e with an existing technology called a balancer (a device that assists in the movement of heavy objects), the company was able to automate the transportation of heavy objects, which had previously been done manually. This achieved both safety and efficiency, reduced the workload, and reduced the number of workers required.
Toyota Industries Corporation operates in a wide range of fields, including automobiles, engines, compressors, logistics and forklifts, electronics, textile machinery, and distribution. The Higashichita Plant is an important production base for GD-type diesel engines used in the Land Cruiser and Hilux.

The factory was facing the challenges of securing young talent and dealing with the issue of succession for experienced workers, and there was an urgent need to promote smart and automated production. In particular, the process of manually loading 26 kg rough materials using hoists (electric lifting devices) and lifting equipment such as wires, chains, and belts posed a high risk of them falling and was a heavy workload, so improvements were needed from the perspective of safety and labor savings.
