Launch of “EcoLume” CFP calculation service for the chemical industry

Starting today, BIPROGY will begin offering “EcoLume,” a carbon footprint (CFP) calculation service for the chemical industry that specializes in chemical products, which are particularly difficult to calculate.
A variety of companies, primarily IT companies, have entered the CFP calculation field and begun to provide calculation tools. However, in the chemical industry, which has complex manufacturing processes and unique calculation rules, calculation methods are difficult to understand, making it difficult to use general tools for calculations, and this has led to the challenge of slowing the spread of CFP calculations.
“EcoLume” employs the calculation logic of “CFP-TOMO,” a product carbon footprint (CFP) calculation tool from Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Sumitomo Chemical”), enabling CFP calculations that correspond to the complex manufacturing processes specific to chemical products.
BIPROGY will comprehensively support the CFP calculation work of clients in the chemical industry, from data collection, processing, conversion, and calculation required for CFP disclosure of chemical products, which requires complex calculations, and will contribute to promoting the spread of CFP calculation in the chemical industry and decarbonization of the entire chemical industry.
As climate change issues become evident around the world due to global warming, regulations and mandates using CFPs that can grasp environmental impacts are being implemented to reduce GHG emissions. Companies are being asked to disclose CFPs by various stakeholders, including customers, financial markets, and governments, and the visualization and reduction of CFPs are becoming evaluation indicators that influence the value of companies and products.
However, CFP calculations in the chemical industry must be performed in accordance with manufacturing processes specific to chemical products (such as joint production (Note 1) and circular manufacturing (Note 2)) and unique calculation rules, making it difficult to calculate using general CFP calculation tools. Therefore, despite the high demand and urgency, it is difficult to popularize CFP calculations.
This is a service that comprehensively supports CFP calculation work, specializing in chemical products that are difficult to calculate. It uses the calculation logic of Sumitomo Chemical’s “CFPTOMO” to realize CFP calculation corresponding to the complex manufacturing process of chemical plants.

We perform CFP calculations based on product information provided by customers and provide the calculation results. Even customers who lack the knowledge or human resources required for calculations can obtain calculation results based on currently available information, enabling CFP disclosure.
