Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has announced an agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) to upgrade its fleet from the Fleet Xpress (FX) service to the advanced NexusWave solution. This upgrade will help MOL speed up the digitalisation of its fleet operations. Inmarsat’s local partner, JSAT MOBILE Communications, will manage NexusWave’s implementation and support. This will cover MOL’s varied fleet, which includes LNG carriers, oil tankers, and car carriers.
MOL is evolving its operations to improve connectivity at sea. The company is focusing on multi-layered satellite communication services. This will make vessels work like complete offices. It will also create cozy living spaces for the crew. NexusWave meets these needs by combining several network underlays into one bonded connection. This offers fast, reliable connectivity with unlimited data and worldwide coverage. The service provides top-notch cybersecurity, round-the-clock support, and clear pricing. This gives MOL a complete and stress-free solution.
“Our digitalised and connected ships are becoming floating operations centres and homes for our crew, and Inmarsat’s NexusWave will help keep them connected to high-speed internet and support our onboard digitalisation strategy,” said Junichi Yoshiyama, Chief Digital & Information Officer, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.

We look forward to making sure installations on MOL vessels are smooth and reliable.”
Recent tests of NexusWave show download speeds of 330–340 Mbps. Upload speeds range from 70–80 Mbps. Plus, network availability is over 99.9%. Inmarsat aims to enhance NexusWave by linking it to the new ViaSat-3 Ka-band network. This new network will provide ultra-high capacity and faster speeds.
