Shippio Inc., whose vision is “Advanced international logistics,” has begun offering an AI-OCR function for trade documents such as invoices and packing lists. Following on from the AI-OCR function for bills of lading (B/L) that was launched last year, the expansion of supported documents will further improve the efficiency and accuracy of trade operations.
Background of the development of the invoice and packing list AI-OCR function
In international logistics, a wide variety of trade documents are exchanged between the parties involved. Because documents are mostly in paper or PDF format, the time and effort required to manually input and check document information into the system places a heavy burden on trade workers.
Shippio has been offering AI-OCR functionality for B/Ls (bills of lading) since April 2025 , and has now expanded its AI-OCR functionality to include two other important trade documents: invoices (*1) and packing lists (*2). This feature uses AI-OCR technology to read PDF documents uploaded to the Shippio cloud, extracting and transcribing information. Trade document formats vary depending on the issuer, making it extremely difficult to guarantee reading accuracy. However, through repeated improvements based on knowledge gained from practical experience at our own forwarding service, Shippio Forwarding, we have achieved a reading accuracy of over 97% for key items.
