NEC Corporation announced on the 7th that it has developed a solution that enables telecommunications carriers to modernize a series of tasks, such as planning, design, and construction work, when installing network infrastructure such as base stations. The introduction of this solution will enable operators to reduce the amount of work required to build the entire mobile infrastructure, from RAN to core, by approximately 60% compared to conventional methods.
NEC explained that in order to accommodate the spread of 5G network virtualization technologies (v-RAN, O-RAN, NFV), the construction of network infrastructure requires modernization to new processes based on cloud native. It is expected that the synergistic effects of virtualization and modernization will further improve the level of automation in network infrastructure construction work.
The solution developed meets these needs, improving the efficiency and quality and productivity of the virtualized mobile infrastructure construction process.

The solution provides professional services. Based on knowledge gained from building virtualization platforms, the company analyzes the business processes required for building network infrastructure, from station placement design to construction work, testing, maintenance and operation, and area quality management, and supports the extraction of issues, the formulation of a ToBe vision, and the formulation of a modernization implementation plan. It also provides consultations on identifying issues in business processes, making improvements, supporting implementation, and measuring results, thereby streamlining the business processes of telecommunications carriers and improving quality and productivity.
In addition, the company will provide a package of technologies that will realize the modernization of mobile networks. The technologies required for automating operations for each construction work process will be packaged and provided as a software platform. This will allow telecommunications carriers to focus on implementing modernization measures. The solution is a cloud-native software design, and is composed of a microservices architecture that develops and links applications as small, independent services, making it compatible with open, multi-vendor equipment.
Furthermore, it enables real-time confirmation of operational data and faster feedback cycles. Network operators can check the operational data of all operating base stations in real time, which not only improves the efficiency of operations but also contributes to improved communication quality by speeding up the feedback cycle on base station status.
NEC provides “Network and Cloud native Orchestrator” to support DX (modernization, hyper-automation, automation/autonomy) of network operation work for telecommunications carriers, and realizes total business efficiency and optimal operation management (orchestration) from network virtualization/containerization and cloud design/construction to maintenance. Through this newly developed solution, it optimizes the entire lifecycle of network infrastructure from construction to operation, and promotes DX for telecommunications carriers, enabling them to rapidly expand their areas and contributing to profitability.
