VAS Experts released the new version 10 of the Stingray Service Gateway, the comprehensive solution for telecommunications operators. Its main innovation is routing support, based on router daemons (back-end software) in a separate VRF namespace.
The main advantages of the new version are:
- Easy scalability: From now on, when using Stingray as BRAS , it is possible to divide a load between multiple nodes and achieve the necessary performance. Using a 64-core CPU allows for up to 100G full duplex processing per server.
- Simplified redundancy – If multiple nodes are in use, there is the ability to switch traffic to backup computers with minimal delays and connection interruptions.
- Daemon support for BIRD router. Future development plans include operations with FRRouting (FRR), QUAGGA, Juniper CRPD, and other daemons.
BIRD acts as a broker: it configures the routing protocol, exchanges routing information, compiles the routing table and, through the Linux Kernel, transmits to the fastDPI control module. In this way the synchronization between BIRD and fastDPI takes place.

Artem Tereschenko , VAS Experts Alliance Manager, mentioned:
“The new version of Stingray SG is different from the old one: the entire VLAN (L2 domains) passes to both nodes. They can operate in active and passive modes, as well as in balance mode. After DPI receives the ARP packet, DHCP o PPPOE, this performs the authorization and, after its success, initiates the transmission of the subscriber’s routing through OSPF / BGP to a router. If the NAT pool is started, at the time of its creation the DPI begins to advertise the information public subnet to a router.
“The router works independent: both the thread and the CPU core. At launch, the system applies default thread parameters, which may be modified in the future. Special note: the router adds to the memory requirements: on average, one should be 160GB or more for reliable operations.
“With Stingray first and foremost being the DPI system (which takes over operations in BRIDGE mode), routing support is the big step forward that unlocks new possibilities.”
The new release is now available. If you are willing to use it, VAS Experts technical support is always ready to accept your notes and suggestions on functionality.
