Plug Power is growing its hydrogen technology in New Zealand and Australia. It shipped a 1‑megawatt GenEco PEM electrolyzer to HWR Hydrogen in Invercargill, New Zealand. The announcement on 22 September shows that hydrogen infrastructure is moving from pilot projects toward real uses in heavy transport and industry.<\/p>

The electrolyzer will be set up at HWR Hydrogen’s refueling station in Invercargill. It will make hydrogen for HWR’s fleet of dual‑fuel hydrogen‑diesel trucks. The project aims to boost hydrogen production and build infrastructure that could serve more hydrogen‑powered vehicles as they come on board.<\/p>

HWR will first use the hydrogen for dual‑fuel trucks made by Change Fuel Technologies. The refueling station will also be ready to support OEM‑supplied hydrogen vehicles for HWR companies and other users when those vehicles arrive.<\/p>

Heavy transportation is a field where Japanese companies can contribute. Truck makers, component suppliers, fuel‑cell developers and infrastructure firms can help build an ecosystem that links hydrogen production with commercial vehicle use.<\/p>

Japans industrial base also knows how to make high‑efficiency equipment, power electronics, compressors, storage systems and energy‑management technologies. These can support hydrogen infrastructure.<\/p>
