Unlike traditional carbon capture technology, which captures CO2 from the industrial facility emissions, DOC captures the dissolved CO2 from seawater. Due to the fact that the ocean already absorbs about one-fourth of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions, capturing CO2 from the seawater will provide the opportunity for the ocean to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere constantly.<\/p>\n

The pilot will be carried out on Kume Island, which is already known for renewable energy and marine technologies. This makes Kume Island a perfect place for testing new ideas related to climate change solutions. The companies plan to examine how the DOC technology can fit into Japan’s future carbon management system.<\/p>\n
